Clonakilty Way:

Guided Historical Walk of the Brewery Town.

There has been a settlement in or near the present town of Clonakilty since 1292, the town as we know it today was founded in 1613 by Richard Boyle, Earl of Cork.

 

Each century since has left its mark on the town and the “ Clonakilty Way” Guided Historical Walk introduces the visitor to stories of Wars, Battles, Rebellions, Famine, Smuggling and Shipwrecks.

 

The route traces the footsteps of famous characters like Michael Collins, James F. Hickey(Greatgrandfather of John F. Kennedy), William Ford ( father of John F. Kennedy) Mary Jane Erwin (wife of Fenian Jeremiah O’ Donovan Rossa), Joan Barry(17th Century Rebel)  and Tadhg An Asna(1798 leader)

Walks mid-June to early September, groups and off season tours welcome by appointment.

 

Commencing at the Michael Collins Statue, Emmet Square.
 Mondays 7 p.m., Thursdays 10.30 a.m.
